A hotel in the 18-storey Mjøstårnet tower, the world’s tallest timber building at the time; VingCard Essence locks sit inside the door leaf and leave the wood to speak.
Wood Hotel occupies part of the Mjøstårnet tower on Lake Mjøsa; the same building also holds apartments and offices. The interiors are built around exposed timber, and the owner wanted an access system that would not look commercial or bulky.
The choice was VingCard Essence: all electronics are housed inside the door, leaving only the handle and an RFID/BLE reader visible. The locks are mobile-key ready, and in online mode staff can cancel a lost card instantly and get an alert when one card is tried on several doors.
For a mixed-use building with a steady flow of guests and residents, it pairs security with a clean, almost invisible design.
