The resort at the crown of Palm Jumeirah: ahead of its 2008 opening, the Royal Towers rooms were fitted with VingCard Signature online locks.
Atlantis, The Palm is a large resort on the man-made Palm Jumeirah island in Dubai, a joint venture of Kerzner International and Istithmar. In 2007, while still under construction, the resort chose VingCard (now an ASSA ABLOY brand) for all guest doors.
The challenge was scale: more than one and a half thousand rooms needed access managed from a single point. VingCard Signature electronic locks were installed and linked online, so each lock exchanges data with a central database over the resort network.
This lets staff move a guest or extend a stay without re-encoding the card, cancel lost staff cards remotely, see doors left ajar, receive intruder and low-battery alerts, and keep a real-time event log.
